To grasp the transformative potential of the Tarot. It’s essential to study it in conjunction with the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. These two systems are inseparable and are best understood when explored together.
The Tree of Life, a central symbol in Kabbalah. Represents both the macrocosmic. (universal forces) and microcosmic (qualities of the self) dimensions of existence.
The Tarot’s 22 Major Arcana cards. Correspond to the 22 paths that connect the ten spheres, or Sephiroth on the Tree of Life. Creating a powerful map of spiritual and psychological development.
The Tree of Life:
The Blueprint of Existence

The Tree of Life consists of ten Sephiroth. Each representing different attributes of the divine and stages of spiritual evolution. At the root of these spheres lies a concept known as Da'at. Which is not counted among the ten but is considered the essence of knowledge from which the Tree of Life grows. In Hebrew, Da'at means "knowledge." Symbolizing the beginning of the soul's journey towards self-understanding and mastery.
In Kabbalistic tradition, the Tree of Life exists in two forms:
The Microcosmic Tree. Represents the qualities of the self and our personal spiritual journey.
The Macrocosmic Tree. Represents the universal forces and the greater spiritual realities that shape our world.

The Tarots Major Arcana cards are divided into two groups of 11. Each corresponding to either the microcosmic or macrocosmic Tree of Life. This division highlights Tarot’s role. In guiding us through both the internal journey of self-discovery. And the external journey of navigating the world around us.

The Fool’s Journey and Da'at. The Fool card is uniquely placed in the Da'at position. Symbolizing the beginning of the soul’s journey. The Fool represents pure potential, the leap of faith, and the quest for self-knowledge. This card is not just about naivety. It embodies the spark of the divine within us. Guiding us into the world with the light of spirit at our backs. The Fool’s journey through the Tarot. Mirrors our own progression from ignorance to enlightenment. Moving from the Earthly realm (Malchut) to the crown of self-mastery (Keter).

The Wheel of Fortune. Positioned at the base of the Tree of Life in Malchut. The Wheel of Fortune represents Earth-bound identification and the cycles of karma. It reminds us that when we are caught in ignorance. We are subject to the whims of fate. However, the desire for self-improvement and truth. Can propel us upward on the Tree of Life, breaking free from the wheel of karma.
"In silence and in darkness, the way of the Hermit becomes clear."
The Hermit: As we move up the Tree, the Hermit card, associated with the desire for knowledge, comes into play. This card represents the seeker in search of wisdom. Lighting the way with humility and an understanding of how much there is still to learn.
"Strength does not come from physical capacity, it comes from an indomitable will.”
Strength and The Chariot. Further along, we encounter Strength and The Chariot. Representing the internal and external manifestations of willpower. Strength embodies the inner courage needed to face life’s challenges. While The Chariot symbolizes the active application of this will in the physical world. To move forward on our spiritual path.
"Where there is love there is life."
The Lovers and the Heart of the Tree. The Lovers card is placed at the heart of the Tree. Representing the generative principle—the true care that motivates our actions. This card emphasizes that what we care about deeply. Becomes the driving force behind our choices and actions, shaping our reality.
"As above, so below, as within, so without, as the universe, so the soul."
The Magician and Self-Mastery. The journey culminates with The Magician at the crown of the Tree. Symbolizing self-mastery. The Magician stands between the worlds, bridging the divine and the Earthly. This card represents the ultimate goal of the Tarot journey. Achieving sovereignty over oneself. And mastering the elements of nature to live as a conscious creator in the world.
