The Hidden Language of Your Body

Unlocking the Secrets of Emotion and Pain

" Emotions are meant to be felt and then released. Holding onto them is what causes pain."

- Debasish Mridha

Your Body Speaks.

Welcome to your body awakening, where we delve into the interplay between emotions and physical well-being.

Today, we explore how emotions manifest in different parts of the body, shedding light on the profound connection between our mental and physical states.

The Body-Mind Connection
An Overview.

Our bodies are not just vessels for physical experiences but also act as storage places for unprocessed emotional.

When we experience intense emotions, they often manifest as physical sensations or tensions in specific areas of the body.

Understanding these connections can help us address both our physical and emotional health more holistically.

Emotional Physical Manifestations.

“The part can never be well unless the whole is well.”

- Plato

Here’s how some common emotions can be stored in different parts of the body.

Stress and Overwhelm

  • Neck and Shoulders: Stress often accumulates in the neck and shoulders. The right shoulder, in particular, is associated with the burden of responsibilities and external pressures.

  • Upper Traps: The upper trapezius muscles, especially on the right side, can become tense from carrying too much responsibility or feeling overwhelmed.

Anxiety and Fear

  • Chest and Stomach: Anxiety is commonly felt in the chest and stomach, causing tightness and discomfort. Fear, particularly of the future or unknown, can also settle in the lower back and legs.

  • Hips: The hips are pivotal in our sense of stability and movement. Fear of moving forward or taking action often manifests here.

Anger and Frustration

  • Jaw and Fists: Anger can cause clenching in the jaw and fists, symbolizing a readiness to fight or defend.

  • Shoulders and Neck: Frustration and unexpressed anger often build up in the shoulders and neck, leading to stiffness and pain.

Sadness and Grief

  • Chest and Throat: Sadness and grief are frequently felt in the chest and throat, contributing to a feeling of heaviness and tightness.

  • Lungs: In traditional Chinese medicine, the lungs are associated with grief, explaining why deep sorrow can impact our breathing.

Guilt and Shame

  • Stomach and Face: Guilt often settles in the stomach, causing digestive issues and discomfort. Shame can cause a burning sensation in the face and stomach, reflecting the internalized criticism.

  • Hips: Guilt about past actions or responsibilities can also be stored in the hips, particularly on the right side, affecting our sense of balance and movement.

"Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth later in uglier ways."

- Sigmund Freud.

Deeper Layers
Hidden Emotions.

Emotions such as anger, sadness or stress can sometimes be cover emotions, masking deeper feelings like fear, insecurity, or guilt.

For instance, tension in the right upper trap might not just be stress but also suppressed anger or fear of failure.

By exploring these deeper layers and what they mean to you, we can achieve profound healing.

Practical Steps
Emotional & Physical Release.

1. Physical Practices: Engage in activities that promote body awareness and tension release, such as yoga, stretching, self massage, trigger point release or progressive muscle relaxation.

2. Emotional Awareness: Reflect on your emotional state at the end of each evening through journaling, mindfulness, or a simple body scan meditation meditation. Understanding the root causes, sensations and layers of your emotions can help in addressing them effectively.

3. Spinal Flow Support: Consider seeking out your local spinal flow practitioner to explore and process deeper emotions in a gentle and supportive environment. Techniques like somatic experiencing and Emotional Freedom Technique can be particularly beneficial.

4. Healthy Boundaries: Learn to delegate responsibilities and set boundaries to manage external pressures. Practice self-compassion and acknowledge your limits.

"The more you hide your feelings, the more they show. The more you deny your feelings, the more they grow."
